Sorry Budd. Only 1 run in 18 innings, 4 plus runs on our 2 aces... They'll probably win game 3, but I think the Angels have us this year.

Yeah you are right. The Angels are definitely playing like they want it more right now. But we all know how fast a ALDS series can change. They need some home cooking. I'm not too happy about the game being on at noon, I can't watch. Why can't they make it 7pm or something? They must be the first of 3 games on TBS oh well.

There's something to be said for showing your true colors. Generally speaking, if you a playing bad baseball the last month of the season you don't just suddenly turn it on in the playoffs. This isn't the Celtics of the 80's (minus '86). Theo once said that he wanted to build a Red Sox team that would compete 7 out of 10 years. I hope this doesn't count as one of the seven.

Yeah they backed their way into the playoffs you can say. Though teams with bad finishes have done good sometimes in the playoffs. I think TBS was talking about that. This team seems built to me. There really isn't anyone else they could of got to improve. All around its a solid team and is built for a playoff run. I mean we got the starter pitchers we wanted playing. No injuries in the field/offense. They added Vmart. Just nobody in the lineup is performing. 1 win can change it all especially in the Oakland series. On another note I don't like that the other LA team just swept. That isn't a good sign for the Sox right now. If they lose I will be adopting the Dodgers I guess. Dodgers/Angels World Series? The city of LA will be in war.

Well I guess we can chat about the rest of the MLB playoffs. I probably won't watch any of the games though. I heard the Yankees are going with a 3 man rotation. I hope that fails miserably. I can deal if the Angels win it all. Lets hope for that Yankee drought to continue.

I guess I'm gonna root for the Dodgers. Only cause imagine how pissed Yankee fans will be if Torre beats them, plus Manny is on that team. I doubt Angels will make the world series.

But Pedro dominated tonight, should of got a W. He is still the man. I'm a Bostonian. Best thing he ever said lol.

Seeing Johnny Damon keep hitting homeruns make me want to vomit, Arod too. Can't watch this game any more.

Of course both videos are gone now. Yeah I watched the Rivera one earlier. Can spitting do anything to the ball? Atleast enough to call Mariano a cheater lol.

Jeez 10-1 Yankees. I didn't want the Phillies to win the title again. But lets hope they kick their ass. Granted both series aren't over yet, it isn't looking good for Dodgers and Angels.

Also this is hilarious. The Dodgers took out Manny for defense or something. And while his team was down in the bottom of the 9th. He wasn't in the dugout supporting the team. He decided to take a nice hot shower. Manny being Manny is still alive.

Oh yeah, spitballs are illegal for a reason, they became illegal after someone died. They make the ball move erratically and are dangerous because they can be throw fast.

Some wiki info

A spitball is an illegal baseball pitch in which the ball has been altered by the application of saliva, petroleum jelly, or some other foreign substance.

Such a pitch presents an additional challenge to the hitter because it causes the ball to move atypically during its approach due to the altered wind-resistance and weight on one side of the ball.

Alternative names for the spitball are spitter, mud ball, shine ball and emery ball, although technically, an emery ball is one where the ball has been abraded in much the same way that the original cut ball had been physically cut.

Preparing a spitball is distinct from ball tampering in cricket, where the use of saliva and sweat as well as the shining of one side of the ball is not only legal but an integral part of the game. The altering of the ball's state by the use of artificial substances such as sun block, dirt or degradation by fingernails or other hard substances is illegal tampering.

The invention of the spitball has been popularly credited to a number of individuals, among them Elmer Stricklett and Frank Corridon. Numerous accounts, however, refer to different players experimenting with versions of the spitball throughout the later half of the 19th century, and it remains unlikely that any one individual "invented" the spitball.[1]

Ed Walsh, however, is certainly responsible for popularizing it. Walsh dominated the American League from 1906–1912 primarily on the strength of his spitball, and pitchers around the league soon copied his spitball or invented their own trick pitch.

The dramatic increase in the popularity of "freak deliveries" led to a great deal of controversy throughout the 1910s regarding the abolition of the spitball and related pitches. (In his autobiography, Ty Cobb wrote that such "freak pitches" "were outlawed when the owners greedily sold out to home runs." (Cobb, My Life in Baseball--The True Record with Al Stump (1961).)

In addition, there were serious issues with the spitball, as a variation on the standard spitball called for the pitcher to smear the entire surface of the normally white ball with a mixture of tobacco spit and dirt or mud in order to stain it the same deep brown color as the infield, making it nearly impossible for batters to see or avoid in low-light conditions. Ray Chapman was famously struck in the temple and killed by a spitball thrown by pitcher Carl Mays during a poorly lit game; Chapman remains to this day the only player in MLB history to be killed by a pitch.

As a result, the spitball was banned in two stages. In the winter of 1919–1920, managers voted to partially ban the spitball, allowing each team to designate at most two pitchers who would be permitted to legally throw spitballs. Then, following the 1920 season, the spitball was banned leaguewide, except for existing spitballers who were grandfathered in and allowed to keep throwing the pitch legally until they retired.[2]

Seventeen existing spitballers were granted this exemption. Burleigh Grimes lasted the longest, retiring in 1934. The complete list: Doc Ayers (played through 1921); Ray Caldwell (1921); Stan Coveleski (1928); Bill Doak (1929); Phil Douglas (1922); Red Faber (1933); Dana Fillingim (1925); Ray Fisher (1920); Marv Goodwin (1925); Dutch Leonard (1925); Clarence Mitchell (1932); Jack Quinn (1933); Allen Russell (1925); Dick Rudolph (1927); Urban Shocker (1928); and Allen Sothoron (1926).

Although the spitball is now banned at all levels of professional and organized amateur baseball, it is still sometimes thrown in violation of the rules. (In 1942, Leo Durocher, then-manager of the Brooklyn Dodgers, fined Bobo Newsom for throwing a spitball and "lying to me about it.") Typically, a lubricant is hidden behind the pitcher's knee or under the peak of his cap. Others will place the ball in their mitt and then cough on or lick it. Another tactic pitchers use is to soak their hair in water before going out to the mound, and then rubbing their hand in their hair before a pitch. Some pitchers have even glued a piece of sandpaper to one of their fingers, and scuffed a part of the ball to achieve a similar effect to the spitball. Ted "Double Duty" Radcliffe has stated that he would hide a piece of emery board in his belt buckle so that he could roughen the ball or even cut it. During the Minnesota Twins' 1987 pennant chase, one of their starting pitchers, Joe Niekro, was suspended when he was caught on the field with a nail file in his back pocket. Niekro said in defense that he had been filing his nails, a common practice amongst knuckleball pitchers. One week later, Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Kevin Gross was caught with sandpaper in his glove and suspended.

One of the most famous spitballers was Preacher Roe, who played for the Brooklyn Dodgers in the 1950s. Roe was renowned both for his ability to control the spitball, as well as to throw it without getting caught and described his methodology in a 1955 article in Sports Illustrated, "The Outlawed Spitball Was My Money Pitch", published a year after he retired.[3] Another famous user of the pitch was Gaylord Perry, who went so far as to title his autobiography Me and the Spitter. (For example, Gaylord would put vaseline on his zipper because umpires would never check there.) Don Drysdale and Lew Burdette also used the pitch regularly.

Sad news, but I had tons of fun making fun of him sucking in the playoffs. Still plenty of time for him to choke. http://www.nesn.com/2009/10/new-england-losing-its-favorite-underachiever-alex-rodriguez.html

lol gotta love Pedro

Pedro on Boston fans backing him: "It wouldn't surprise me at all. I know they don't like the Yankees to win -- not even in Nintendo games"

Pedro on Red Sox fans: "I'm going to give them same effort I always gave them. They're special fans and they will always have my respect"
