Budd, if you could sticky this I'd appreciate it.

I know there has been some confusion as to how scoring works in the TBIV.net league, so let me try and explain.

Okay, try to stay with me here. There are ten scoring categories, they are as follows:

Skating
Goals (G)
Assists (A)
Plus/minus (+/-)
Penalty Minutes (PIM)
Power Play Goals (PPG)
Average Time on Ice (ATOI)
Shots on goal (SOG)

Goaltending
Wins (W)
Goals Against Average (GAA)
Save Percentage (SV%)

After every day, your TEAM "standing" in each category is calculated. If your team is first in a category you get 10 points, second you get 9 points, third you get 8 points, etc. A tie will earn you half a point, so for instance if two people tie for second place in a category, you will each get 8.5 points. The highest score you can have at the end of the season (or on any given day) is 100 points (1st in each category), and the least is 10 points (last in each category). So, Budd, you have 57.5 points, which means that once you add up your standing in each of the above categories it averages out to roughly 4th place (or roughly 6 out of 10 possible points for each category. Well technically 5.75 points for each category [5.75x10= 57.5]). Unfortunately, ESPN neglects it's fantasy hockey system and doesn't allow you to see your standing in each category. The daily +/- number that shows up next to your score shows the net gain or drop in your standings for all of the ten categories. That number will go up and down during the season but it will never exceed 100 or drop below 10.

If someone can find a way to sort the league standings based on individual categories, let me know. I'm thinking it isn't possible though.

I wish I knew this before the draft. Because this completely changes everything, especially with goalies.

For example, Miikka Kiprusoff. Kiprusoff led the league with 45 wins last year, but his GAA was 2.85 and his save percentage was .899, both below the league average. That means in our league, Kiprusoff would have netted you 10 points for leading the league in wins, but probably only 2 or 3 for GAA and SV%. Unless you have a really good second goalie to offset him, Kiprusoff is only worth 12-16 points.

Now, take someone like Tomas Vokoun. Vokoun will probably put you around the middle of the pack in wins (4-6 fantasy points), but his GAA was 2.44 and his SV% was .905, meaning that he probably would net you 6-8 points in both categories. So that means Vokoun is worth from 16-22 points, while Kiprusoff is only worth 12-16 points. But when you draft, there is no way you're taking Vokoun over Kiprusoff, right? Remember though, you gain points for your standing in each category for BOTH goalies on your team combined. And the minimum games a goalie has to play in order to count toward your total is only 30. So if you have Jonas Hiller and Kiprusoff, and Hiller ends the season with a 2.15GAA in 35 games, your team average for GAA is 2.50 (the average of Hiller's 2.15 and Kip's 2.85), which would probably put you around 5th in the league and net you 5 points for that category.

Now take Ilya Kovalchuk for example. Sure, he will bolster your goal total and get you closer to the league lead in goals and assists, but his +/- will make your net +/- total lower and drop your standing in that category. This is why someone like Patrice Bergeron or Milan Lucic has value. They will be beneficial across the board in every category. That's why, in addition to Crosby, Malkin and Ovechkin, someone like Jerome Iginla will have extremely high fantasy value.

I hope this all makes sense, I know it's a lot to follow.

EUREKA!

http://games.espn.go.com/fhl/standings?leagueId=3581

If you go to "My Team" and next to your avatar click on your standing ("2nd", "3rd" etc). That will bring up the expanded league standings and you can sort it by each category to see where you stand.

For instance, next to my team (The Beaneaters), there is a "10" under goals. That means I'm leading the league in goals. But there is also a "1" in +/-, which means I'm last in that category. There are six of us tied with 1 goaltender win, which means we each got 3.5 points. Use that chart to make adjustments.

Below that table is your actual stats, which shows your total in each category.

Ah I understand it now. I actually did a league run by my dad's friend a couple years ago. You might know them they live in Wakefield. And the scoring was exactly the same. I should of remembered that. I like that scoring alot. I was thinking the points get added on each day. That is why earlier I was thinking shit I lost points lmao. Thanks for explaining all that. You couldn't of said it better.

We mine as well chat about this league in here. I can't believe the jump I made in the standings. Still early but I was almost in last. Now I'm in second. Though the Detroit Falcons have a huge lead for first place. Dean who is the manager of that team your friend?
